S0105 ILE DE FRANCE - French Line passenger liner. She was built in 1927 for trans Atlantic service between Le Harve and New York. In 1940 she was converted to a French troopship for service during WWII. 1947-49 she was reconditioned to resume passenger service. At that time her original three stacks were reduced to two. When the ANDREA DORIA sank the ILE DE FRANCE was the ship that rescued most of the passengers. In 1958 she was withdrawn from service and was scrapped the following year.
