S0037 FRANCE - Trans Atlantic passenger liner. She was built in 1962 at St. Nazaire for the French Line and was the longest ship in the world at the time. Amid protests by the crew and the people of France, the French government ceased subsidizing the ship in 1974 and she was laid up. Ultimately purchased by Norwegian interests in 1979, she was converted to a cruise ship and renamed NORWAY. In 2003 she was laid up by Norwegian Cruise Lines, due to a steam pipe explosion. She has been scrapped over the past few months. In this view she is backing from her NY wharf in a heavy fog.
