S0091 CHAUNCEY M. DEPEW - Excursion steamer. She was built in 1913 as the RANGELEY at the Bath Iron Works for the Maine Central RR for service on the Maine coast. In 1925 she was purchased by the Hudson River Day Line, renamed and converted to an excursion steamer. She was taken by the governmemt in 1940. After WWII she became an excursion boat in New York waters and later Chesapeake Bay and from Providence to Block Island. In 1950 she was purchased by the government of Bermuda. In the early 70s she steamed back to the U.S. and ultimately became a restaurant in NJ. She later sank and was scrapped. This view shows her at Atlantic Highlands, NJ on 7/14/49.
